I’m reaching out with some important news about the statewide assessments for English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in grades 3-8 and grade 11 will be taking the state's Smarter Balanced Assessments. These provide an academic check-up and are designed to help teachers and parents know whether students are on track to be college and career-ready by the time they graduate. Unlike our previous, multiple-choice-only tests, our new assessments include question formats which allow students to demonstrate a broader set of skills, like critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical writing. We now have tests that allow students to go beyond just simply stating facts to show what they know and can do.
The testing window opens February 6th and will continue until June 8th. Most students in the Pendleton School District in grades 3-8 and 11 will begin taking the Smarter Balanced tests in April and May. I have included a link to our website where you can find additional information about these assessments. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have about state testing.
